Akasaka Tec Inc. in Yokohama concluded a technical support program,

April 2003, they will start a map information system for companies called
(GIS) service (Web GIS) which utilizes KDDI's GPS mobile phone with a
digital camera.Information including letters, numbers, and images on maps
that are multilaterally gathered and the information is provided to the
mobile phones.
As of September 2002, total number of the Internet accounts for mobile
phones are more than 57 million. Akasake Tec Inc. estimated that 10% of
the total numbers of the Internet accounts for mobile phones are used
by companies, and plans to obtain more than 10,000 users for the service
in the first year, and 100,000 users by the third year.With high-speed
communication infrastructures being popularized, Akasaka Tec Inc. provides
users with multilateral map information service in remote areas making
use of KDDI's GPS mobile phones with a digital camera.The service fee
for each mobile phone is 2,000 yen per month.
In fact,they provide electric power and gas companies with images attached
to map information and local public bodies with the images of the current
situation of the infrastructure, the recovery situation for disasters,
or the amount of pollution going into the ocean.Users of the mobile phone
service can do remote control of maintenance and actual work, operation,
delivery of products, or payments.Since the users can make use of the
information service with their mobile phones, they can save money for
gathering information they need. In the future, Akasaka Tec Inc. will
provide greater contents and will develop the application software for
the services which are suitable for five or six industries, including
distribution and things related to the environment.
